An article in the New York Times in December 2021 said that job openings in the US rose to 11 million in the last quarter of 2021. “It’s not just quitting for the sake of quitting, it’s quitting to find better employment,” said Gregory Daco, the chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics. So where have they all gone?
During the first week of January 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that a whopping 5.4 million new business applications were filed in 2021. Surpassing the record set in 2020 of 4.4 million, this is the highest number of startups on record.
The latest survey by benefits provider Gusto found the new businesses were overwhelmingly created by women and people of color. These numbers are inspiring. The unfortunate downside is the number of newly formed businesses that will struggle or fail due to lack of help & support.
For these COVID Entrepreneurs, it’s not a seamless transition to go from employee to business owner. Coaching could be the tool in their toolbox that takes them from barely surviving to thriving.
